Waltzes

All of the waltzes offered here are 32 bar sequences and have both a progressive and non-progressive form. If you want to enjoy some varied and exhilarating free waltzing, you can easily put a few of them (in non-proressive form) back-to-back, but to avoid having to change weight or hand hold too often you may want to group together those which start both l.f. and in high promenade (cross hand)hold, such as the Grand Illusion and the Peek-a-boo waltz, and those starting with opposite feet (M stepping on l.f. and W onto r.f.) as do all the other. All but one of these others involve open hand or ballroom hold holds, so they will go easily one after the other. The exception is 'The Alexandrina', which although requiring dancers to start with the outside foot, has them in a cross hand hold. This dance can then be introduced into a sequence of either of the above groups of waltzes, but to join the first mentioned group the woman will need to change foot and to join the second group, you will both need to change hand hold. You can also add into a sequence of 'opposite foot open hold' waltzes twice through the 16 bar 'I Wonder as I Wonder' from The Christmas Carol Dance Book. You can add into a sequence of 'same foot cross hand' waltzes 'Two-to-Twirl', Winter 6 in The Lost Dances of Earthly Delights, and 'What Child is This', in The Christmas Carol Dance Book. Most of these dances can also be done with polka or polka redowa step - eithe as a dance in its own right, or as an addition to a free-style polka collage.

Our apologies for the temporary removal of the dance instructions from this page. The instructions that were on this page were only sketchy working editions of dances for which you can now find corrected versions, with full historical notes and accompanying music, in the work The Lost Dances of Earthly Delights Volume 2. Although we hope to get around to putting the up-dated versions back up on the web it may not be for some time and we hope you will take the opportunity that now presents to acquire the definte version of these dances in the beautiful hard copy book and 4 CD set that is now available. Please go to http://www.earthlydelights.com.au/cds2.htm for more information, order form and contents summary.
