The three varsoviennas offered here are all 32 bar sequences,
but whereas the first starts with opposite foot and opposite hand, the second
starts same foot and same hand, and the third starts opposite foot and same
hand. As a consequence enthusiasts who wants to dance these sequences back-to-back,
will need to anticipate some transition switches - either between ballroom
hold and promenade hold, or between both starting outside foot to both starting
inside foot. To avoid having to do both simulataneously, however, I recommend
not trying to go from La Va Ouvert and La Va Croissée (or vice-versa),
but putting between the two La Va Melangée. To make the most of these
dances I also recommend trying for less of the rocking stomp and bent heel
asociated with varsoviennas in some surviving folk traditions and more of
the chest-up glide and pointing of toe associated with mid-19th century ballroom.
Have fun!
Our apologies for the temporary removal
of the dance instructions from this page. The instructions that were on this
page were only sketchy working editions of dances for which you can now find
corrected versions, with full historical notes and accompanying music, in
the work The Lost Dances of Earthly Delights Volume 2. Although
we hope to get around to putting the up-dated versions back up on the web
it may not be for some time and we hope you will take the opportunity that
now presents to acquire the definte version of these dances in the beautiful
hard copy book and 4 CD set that is now available. Please go to http://www.earthlydelights.com.au/cds2.htm
for more information, order form and contents summary.
