arch   One couple raises joined inside hand and goes over another.

arm   Link specified arms (either at the elbow or by holding forearms) and turn by each travelling forward.

back-to-back   Go past by specified shoulder, across behind other and backwards to place by other shoulder.

cast   Turn away from partner and move up, down or around outside of set while others stand still, move up or continue in an indicated direction.

chain   Pull past with r.h. by r.shoulder, release hand, extend other to new opposite and pull past by other shoulder. Continue as specified. In a 'W chain' W pull past each other by r.sh. and give l.h. to other M who turns to puts his r.h. in her r.h. on her r.hip and wheel her about.

circle   Join hands just above waist height and move using whichever step characterises the dance or is specified in an indicated direction.

cross   Simply go directly across the set to other side passing partner or opposite by specified shoulder.

do-si-do   The same as back-to-back

fall back   Move backwards with as many steps as specified or as fits sequence, usually away from, while facing, partner or opposite.

gypsy     Move around each other while facing and holding eye-contact. To gypsy by the r.sh. move off to the left and go cw around, by the l.sh. move off to the right and go acw.

hands across      Giving specified hand into a hand-shake hold with diagonal opposite while another pair do same above or below and giving weight in star formation, move forward.

hey (for three, four or more)   Starting with specified people passing by the specified shoulder, weave to the other end of line and back, making wide loop on the ends.

honour   M simply bow relaxing arms and torso or step back on one foot, bending same knee, while spreading lowered hands and pointing other foot. W curtsey, bringing one foot behind the other, bending and then straightening knees.

lead   Side-by-side with partner (W usually on r.h.side of M) take inside hand just above waist height, MÁs palm up WÁs palm down, and go forward.

poussette   Take hands with partner, arms extended above waist height and push and pull on specified diagonals to zig-zag around each other and so progress up or down set.

promenade   Move forward as side-by-side couple, M on the left, W right

rights and lefts     Pull past opposite with r.h. then past partner with l.h. Can continue chain back to place.

sheepskin hey   While some stand still, others weave in a line around them, the last taking a short cut to become new leader.

side   With a double step approach partner r.sh. to r.sh., then retire with a double. Can be repeated by other sh.

swing   Give weight with partner and pivot cw on r.f., usually finishing with W on right of M.

turn   Taking specified hands at chest height and giving weight, move around one another å to be quick link thumbs and point elbows down.

wheel   While side-by-side and facing same way take inside hands and turn as a couple, one forward and one back.
