below   Direction in a longways set which is away from the top and the band

down   Direction in a longways set which is away from the top and the band

corner   Near person of opposite gender other than partner - in a quadrille or a circle usually person on MÁs left or WÁs right. In a duple minor formation, first corners are 1M & 2W and second corners 1W & 2M.

couple   M and W å and when standing side-by-side the W is always on the right of the M.

duple minor   Subset of two couples, 1s starting above 2s, but usually finishing a sequence below 2s, the 2s having progressed up to above the 1s.

four-hands   4 dancers taking hands (actually 8 hands)- usually in a circle but sometimes a star.

improper   When a M is on the WÁs side of the dance and a W is on the MÁs side of a longways set. In duple minor formation this usually means every second couple is Çcrossed overÁ.

longways set   Dancers in two straight facing lines.

neighbour   The nearest person of opposite dancing gender other than partner, usually immediately to your side.

proper   When M are all on the MÁs side of a longways set and W all on WÁs side.

quadrille   A square set of 4 inward-facing couples.

triple minor   Subsets of three couples, 1s progressing one place down each time through the sequence to repeat sequence from progressed place, 2s and 3s progressing up and exchanging roles as they do so.
