John Garden

There is lots about John's musical and dance life on the members page of the band chapter. On other pages you can read lots about the instruments that he plays, the upcoming events he's involved with and the dance history that he loves. Its not been mentioned anywhere else, however, that in his 'other life' John goes by Dr John Raymond Gardiner-Garden, has gained a BA Hons in History from Macquarie University, an MA in Classics and PhD in Asian Studies from the Australian National University, has studied many ancient and modern European and Asian languages, has enjoyed lengthy periods of research in Asia, Europe and North America, and has published extensively on ancient literary traditions, Central Asian ethnography and contemporary Australian public policy in the areas of health, immigration, indigenous affairs and the arts. He's not sure how all this - let alone his curious family name - came about.

Aylwen Garden

Aylwen works from her home studio as a historical costumier, desktop publisher and events manager. She enjoys researching historical sewing methods and particularly enjoys making 18th and 19th century costume for both men and women. She is the resident seamstress for the historical dance troupe 'The Bordonian Heritage Dancers' and organises monthly costume balls in Canberra. She started sewing by hand as a child and is almost completely self taught in historical sewing techniques. Aylwen is also the Director of the Jane Austen Festival of Austrlia (JAFA).
